Today it is believe by many educators that illness does in fact begin in the gut, specifically with what's called 'Leaky Gut', or 'increased intestinal permeability'...where undigested food particles can cross into the blood stream, creating inflammation and other problems in the body. Healing the gut is now considered basic to healing most things.
MAIN THINGS THAT DAMAGE THE GUT:
1) Gluten, dairy, sugar, seed oils (like in chips)
2) Stress (too much is too much)
3) Antibiotics (take probiotics)
4) Parasites, Candida and SIBO
5) Toxins (pesticides, GMO)
6) Deficiencies (non organic, processed food)

2) Circadian Rhythm Entrainment (bright light during day, dim light in evening), and
Structured Breathing Practice (aka meditation, activate rest and digest response)

NOT: dairy, *gluten, refined sugars, refined seed oils like canola.
*Gluten is in wheat, barley, rye, spelt, kamut, and oats that are not gluten free.
MAYBE NOT: I would also omit peanuts (a very hard to digest legume), and keep fruit to once a day, berries a good choice. Fruit feeds candida, as can peanuts. Grains can feed candida in some also.
Leaving out all grains, and even all beans, is also an option. That is be a strict paleo diet
and is highly beneficial for autoimmune conditions, stabilizing blood sugar and more.
(The Whole 30 is an example of this kind of diet, and has been done by over 10 000 people).
For some, tofu is a problem, and for some, eggs, nuts and seeds are too. Experiment and see how you feel with and without these.
Soup! (Make a big one and keep in fridge, or freeze)
Fish and other meats!
BIG green salads w avocado and colourful veggies
Protein shakes (make with mylk and nuts or mylk and protein powder, try rice, hemp, or pea).
VEGGIES! (esp Leafy greens, cruciferous, richly colourful, and sulphur: onion family like garlic and shallots).
Healthy Fats: esp coconut, avocado (saturated fats), plus olive oil. Ghee is good too.
Hummus (if you’re doing beans)
Muffins! (kidding! Well, ok if you make them paleo style with coconut-almond flour)
Cauli-rice! (crumble cauliflower into ‘rice’!)
Bone broth (but it org or make it yourself from happy chickens)
Yams! (roast a few and keep some for later)
Veggie sticks and almond butter!
Kale chips, or roasted veggie chips (use carrot, beet, sweet potato...)
Stir fry w coconut mylk, turmeric, ginger, garlic
Sea salt over conventional salt
