Today I'm gonna share some simple tricks for healthy living, things that might seem too simple, but fact is they can really make a difference. You'll also notice that they don't cost much.
1. Get a big water bottle and carry it everywhere.
I bought a small pack that has a side pouch to hold my big bottle, one of the best choices I ever made. But you can also keep it in your car. Fill it up often from your water filter or alkalizer.
2. Eat Before Shopping
We've all done it: you go shopping for basics, and you leave with chips (but they are the healthy olive oil ones!), trail mix (w chocolate of course) and something else...and you totally forgot to get the eggs you went for in the first place. Eating before you shop may solve this problem and help you make choices that more reflect what your body really wants.
3. Use Lots of Spices
Not just tasty, spices are incredibly good for you. They have anti-inflammatory properties, blood sugar balancing properties, are high in antioxidants, and more. It turns out that a flavourful meal is a healthy meal. Eat the spices you're drawn to.
4. Do Smoothies
Smoothies are healthy fast food. And for some people, just by adding a smoothie to their day, and they will lose weight. Yes, just like that. But be sure to include some protein and healthy fat in your smoothie. Be sure to see my other smoothie posts.
5. Take Vitamin D
They say (researchers, that's who), that most of us in the northern hemisphere are Vitamin D deficient. This probably explains our common desire to go to the tropics in the winter. Well taking Vitamin D3 is a lot cheaper. You could do a Vitamin D test first, but at $60 in Canada, its a lot cheaper to just buy Vitamin D. Buy D3, and take 2000iU a day. I like the liquid form. Keep it near your toothpaste or on your kitchen counter. It only works if you take it.
6. Prep Your Veggies When You Get Home
This one is pure genius. Not only does it save time but you'll find yourself eating more veggies. You'll open your fridge and see brightly coloured peppers, carrots and celery just ready to be eaten! So cut your carrots into sticks (or slices for stir fries), same with celery, and you might even wash and chop your greens and put them in a container with a paper towel on top. (I also recommend making a home made ranch dip).
7. Hot Water Bottle
I sometimes get really cold feet in bed (no not in that way, lol), especially on those cold winter nights, so I will often fill up a hot water bottle and throw it in my bed to pre-warm it. just be careful cause they can be really, really hot. This is also great if you get thirsty at night. (kidding).
